Grass is one of the three basic elemental types along with Fire and Water, which constitute the three starter Pokémon. Grass is one of the weakest types statistically, with 5 defensive weaknesses and 7 types that are resistant to Grass moves. Grass-type Pokémon seem to be affected by weather conditions more than most other Pokémon, due to their closeness with plants and nature. While weak to Ice and Fire-type, two very commonly used types offensively, the other weaknesses of the Grass-types are rarely used offensively. Furthermore, two of the types that specialize in moves that Grass types are weak to are hindered by their poor offensive stats. Most Grass-type moves a smart moves.

Weak against Ground, Rock and Water, Fire-type Pokémon do not usually survive long in battle, so they must deal damage quickly. This reflects the nature of fire being a glass cannon; a very destructive force yet at the same time being very fragile. Fire is very powerful and is super effective against Grass, Ice, Bug and Steel. Fire is unique in that it is the only type that can cause 5× times damage. Fire-type moves are typically beautiful.

It is the most common type with over 100 Pokémon, which are based on a wide variety of fish and other sea-dwelling creatures. Water type is very strong defensively with high defensive stats. In addition, they can learn other moves that can help defend themselves. Electric-type is the only one true threat to Water-types. Water-types are all useful offensively. They are extremely useful when traveling through caves. Most trainers carry at least one Water-type around because of the many HMs. Also, double weaknesses to Water are fairly common while there are only five Pokémon that have a double resistance to Water all of which are Water types themselves. Furthermore, most Water-type moves are beauty moves.

Most Flying-type Pokémon are based on birds or insects, along with a few more mythical creatures such as dragons. Flying is usually a secondary type. They are useful due to their immunity against Ground-type’s move Earthquake and its resistance against Fighting. Nonetheless, Flying-type’s weaknesses aren’t rare and can offset the immunity to Ground-types. They usually have below average defence states making them vulnerable to most physical attacks, super effective or not. Flying-type moves are usually helpful when benefited by the same-type attack bonus and their strength against Fighting-type. They also have an advantage against Bug and Grass-type Pokémon. They pair well with Water and Flying-types. Flying-type moves are considered cool in contests.
